M. TOLGA AKBULUT  – Architect, Prof., PhD

Born in 1970 in Istanbul, M. Tolga Akbulut has graduated from Saint-Benoit High School. He received his Bachelor’s degree in architecture from Istanbul Technical University and his Master’s degree in Istanbul Technical University Architectural Design Program. In 2001, he completed the “Architectural Parasismique” DPEA Program (Diplôme Propre aux Ecoles d’Architecture) at Ecole Nationale Superieure d’Architecture de Marseille in France. M. Tolga Akbulut received PhD degree in Architectural Design Program in 2014 from Yildiz Technical University.

He has served as Vice Chair of Architecture Department between 2010-2012 and he has served as Vice Dean of YTU Faculty of Architecture between 2016-2018. M. Tolga Akbulut has participated in the establishment of Yıldız Technical University Faculty of Architecture E-Journal “Megaron” and contributed to the development of the journal. Between 2005 and 2014, he has served as a “Megaron Associate Editor” and “Co-Editor”. Between 2018 and 2021, he was the director of Yıldız Technical University Tourism Research Center For Site Management – Design – Planning (TURAY). M. Tolga Akbulut, who has been attending part-time in Architectural Design courses at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University, Faculty of Architecture and Design since 2014, started to work full-time since April 2023.

M. Tolga Akbulut has published numerous papers in academic journals, conference procedings, books and book chapters about “Design Education”, “Housing Design”, “Earthquake Design”, “Tourism and Architecture”, “Architecture for Children”. He has participated national and international architectural design competitions as a participant and jury member. He has professional experience in project studies and design applications for different functions such as residential, office, educational, health, and cultural buildings. Between 2014-2016, he worked as a project consultant in the European Union Erasmus+ project named “C.A.T.C.H Children Architects to Creates Homes”, which was carried out in cooperation with Portugal, Italy, Belgium, Greece and Poland secondary schools under the coordination of Küçükçekmece IMKB Yavuz Sultan Selim Secondary School.

He has been teaching Building Theory and Design, Basic Design, Descriptive Geometry, Architectural Presentation Techniques, Museum Buildings, Model, Architectural Design courses in Bachelor’s Degree and Design Theories and Methods course in Master’s Degree.
